People & Papua New Guinea Culture
The Prime Minister has said that infrastructure and urban construction are priorities which Papua New Guinea looks to coordinate “more meaningfully” on with regional partners. Security and best practice sharing in sectors such as agriculture and tourism are additional points of interest.

The security industry in PNG is booming and presently posts a conservative industry worth about 600 million AUD (up to 1 billion Kina). Security Industries Authority (SIA) registrar Paul Kingston Isari said this during a recent joint workshop held in Papua New Guinea.

The goal is to improve the business environment to attract foreign direct investment, create opportunities for small businesses and young entrepreneurs, and spur job creation. This is in-line with Papua New Guinea’s agenda for bringing APEC economies closer together.

People from PNG are largely descendants of the Papuans – Melanesians include island countries as Fiji, New Caledonia and Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea. Today there are over eight (8) million people living in Papua New Guinea.

Papua New Guinea, top ten trading partners last year included nine APEC economies led by Australia, Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia and the United States, projects some 6.2 percent growth. This is down from around 7.5 percent in the last five years, yet ahead of the International Monetary Fund’s 5.5 percent growth forecast for Papua New Guinea.

Language
More than 800 local languages (in addition to many minor dialects) exist in Papua New Guinea – about a third of the world's indigenous tongues. Pidgin (Tok Pisin) is common to most Papua New Guineans, and learning a few words can be handy, especially when travelling in more remote areas.
